The MEL Council approved and established two new certification standards—the Fishmeal and Fish Oil Certification Standard (Version 1.0) and the Compound Feed Certification Standard (Version 1.0)—at its Ordinary General Meeting held on 17 June 2026.
These standards were developed to separate feed-related requirements from the aquaculture certification and to establish a robust framework that covers the entire aquaculture feed supply chain. Their purpose is to support responsible and sustainable aquaculture production that earns the trust of consumers.
The standards are scheduled to enter into force on 1 December 2026. Preparations are underway with certification bodies to begin accepting certification applications in early 2027.
